Dream Deity – A Short Story
She had been planning it for weeks. She knew that she had to do something if she ever wanted to see her family again. Taking a deep breath, she cut through the fence and started running. She could hear the dogs barking as they gave chase, but she didn’t stop. She ran until her lungs were on fire, and her legs felt like jelly. Finally, she collapsed in a heap, panting and sweating. She knew that she couldn’t keep running; they would catch up to her sooner or later. But at least she was free.
She had been running for hours, and she knew that they were close behind her. She could hear their footsteps pounding the pavement, getting closer and closer with each passing second. But she refused to give up. She had worked too hard to be free, and she wasn’t going to let them take her back.
Suddenly, she heard a loud shout and saw a group of men coming towards her, weapons in hand. There was no escape now. She resigned herself to her fate and waited for the end.
But instead of attacking her, the men simply surrounded her. One of them spoke softly, his voice gentle despite the weapon he held in his hand. “It’s okay,” he said comfortingly. “You don’t have to be afraid.”
The woman was confused and terrified, but she couldn’t help but feel relieved at the man’s words. Suddenly, she felt something soft touch her cheek, and she looked up.
In the darkness, all she could see was a pair of bright blue eyes looking down at her with concern. She tried to scramble away, but the creature held her easily, its grip gentle yet unyielding. “Who are you?” she asked, her voice shaking. “Please let me go.” The creature just looked at her sadly before it leaned down and kissed her forehead.
She couldn’t believe her eyes. There, standing in front of her, was the most beautiful creature she had ever seen. It was slender and graceful, with piercing blue eyes that seemed to look into her very soul. She felt drawn to it, and before she knew what was happening, she was in its arms.
The creature just looked at her and smiled before it leaned down and kissed her forehead again. And then it was gone.
She woke up panting, her heart racing. It had all been a dream- but it had felt so real. She could still smell the creature’s scent on her skin, a mix of salt and sandalwood that made her feel strangely safe. She could only hope that one day she would find it again. The sun was setting in the sky, painting the world in shades of orange and red, and she had to find shelter before nightfall. She had been running for hours, ever since she had seen the creature in the woods. It was taller than any man she had ever seen, with skin as dark as ebony and eyes that shone like gold. It moved with grace and power, like a predator stalking its prey. And yet, there was something about it that made her feel safe as if it would never hurt her. She could tell that it was a mythical creature, though she had never seen anything like it before. It didn’t matter; only one thing was on her mind: she had to find it again.
But then something unexpected happened- something that would change her life forever: another creature came into view. This time, she could clearly see its features: long black hair that fell effortlessly around its face, a slender yet muscular build, and the most piercing blue eyes that she had ever seen. It was even more beautiful than her dream creature, but it seemed wrong somehow. She felt as though she should be afraid of it.
The dogs stopped barking as they saw the creature approaching, apparently just as transfixed as she was by its beauty. The creature slinked towards them silently until it stood in front of them, staring at them with those piercing blue eyes. Before she could say or do anything to stop it, the creature turned around and looked at her directly for a moment before looking back at the dog handlers. For a second, an unusual silence fell over all of them; then there were gunshots and screams as several men went flying into the air, thrown by some unseen force. The creature looked back at her again, and its eyes were now full of anguish and sadness. She felt a deep sense of sorrow- as if she knew that this was coming all along.
With a heavy heart, she turned around and headed deeper into the forest. For a brief moment, she thought she heard someone calling out to her; but when she turned around, no one was there.
