How To Treat People Who Are Experiencing Mental Health Challenges

If you know someone who is experiencing a mental health challenge, there are some things you can do to support them.

UNDERSTAND

First, be understanding and patient. People with mental health challenges often need more time to do things than others. They may also need help completing everyday tasks.

ASSIST

You can also offer practical assistance. This might include running errands for them, helping them with money management, or cooking meals. It’s also important to be supportive emotionally. Let your loved one know that you’re there for them, no matter what.

SUPPORT

Finally, be mindful of your words and actions. Avoid judging or criticizing your loved one, and try not to dismiss their feelings. Instead, let them know that you care and want to help. If you’re not sure how to support someone with a mental health challenge, there are many resources available to help you.

Contact your local mental health association or psychiatric hospital for more information.

Thank you, it is important for people to understand these things. For me, listening, without interrupting, is so important to me. Let me vent! I have people who are so very supportive and I kicked out the ones who were not.

Agreed, I also appreciate it when people listen without interrupting me and my thought process. It takes such a long time for me to construct the architecture of the words in my mind, when they break my rhythm I lose my entire thread… 🙂
