Have You Ever Wondered, “What’s The Point?”

Do you ever wake up in the morning and wonder, “What’s the point?” Does it seem that no matter what you do or where you go, nothing will improve the way things are going? Maybe your feelings of hopelessness have to do with a problem at work. Or maybe there just doesn’t seem to be anything out there for you. It might help to know that you’re not alone. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, over 16 million adults in America suffer from depressive disorders.

As important as this information is, it’s also important to know that just because you’ve had these feelings for a little while doesn’t mean there isn’t something out there for you. In fact, there are plenty of options out there for those struggling with depression.

These include:

  • Counseling and therapy
  • Antidepressant medication
  • Exercise or physical activity
  • Diet and nutrition

Even though the idea of going to a therapist might be scary at first, therapy is a great way to talk through your feelings with a trained mental health professional. A therapist will help you identify the cause of your depressive symptoms – something you may not have been able to do by yourself – and work towards finding a solution that works for you.

If therapy isn’t something that appeals to you, that’s okay! There are also a variety of medications that can be prescribed by your doctor that have been proven to help with depression. They might not be right for everyone, but you wouldn’t know until you tried.

One study done in Edinburgh discovered that exercise has a moderate impact on depressive symptoms in adults. When people feel better about themselves and the way they look, it can help them become more motivated to take on other goals.

Eating a healthy diet has been proven time and again to increase your overall well-being. By eating fruits and vegetables, staying away from processed sugars and carbohydrates, and drinking enough water each day, you can boost your mood and improve the way you think.

Never Give Up

If the problem is that things just seem to keep getting worse no matter what you do, don’t give up hope. There are plenty of resources out there for people who suffer from depressive disorders, whether it’s through counseling and therapy, medication, physical activity, or healthy living. And if you really can’t pull yourself out of that pit, there are agencies that exist to help you. Even people without any kind of disorder or condition sometimes feel depressed for a short amount of time. However slight, remember that there’s always support everywhere for everyone with whatever challenge they’re faced with.
